It's built like a tank, functions flawlessly, and is a lot easier to clean that many others I've used over the years. I bought this for the price and the glass jar, which is nice. Bought my first one of these at my local Walmart about 3 years ago, proved to have the same screw base, and it served me well until now. Never used the pitcher - just pint and quart Mason jars. (Mix up the the smoothie ingredients once a week in several jars, keep them in the fridge, and bring them out each morning. That stuff was going to be in the fridge anyway, and it lets the nuts get soft.) It does not "liquefy" the ingredients as you might get with a $200+ blender, but they are finely chopped with no need to "chew" your smoothie. Sometimes I put in the pulp from my juicer, so that is already finely broken up. As seen in the attached picture, the drive teeth can get worn away if you don't fit the base on exactly right.

Unlike my last one where the motor failed, this one is still running great, just lost its teeth. As you can also see, the current blade teeth (upper, grey) are smaller than the old blade teeth (lower, black) from my old HB blender. Interestingly enough, the blender still works fine using the old blade assembly with bigger teeth, though I expect it to fail soon - which is why I bought a new one. The HB design people have made a blender with a better motor, but poorer drive teeth. Too bad you cannot buy the old style blade assembly with the big black teeth. I purchased it to crush ice, very disappointed. The wave motion takes the ice cubes to the top and doesn't crush unless you consistently open top and move the cubes around. It creates a vortex action around the blades. Hence the ice is pushed to the sides of the blender too.

Think it would be a great blender for chopping, dicing, mixing etc. My old one was 40 yrs. working great, but not for chopping ice cubes.. I knew what I wanted but this Hamilton Beach blender was not it. And I had to return it and purchased another brand, more dependable.
