If no standard is indicated, the minimum standard will be campus attire. Modest casual attire may be worn at certain activities and events. Shorts and other pants ending above the ankle are inappropriate for campus. Shorts are only allowed at playing fields and must be modest in length. Traveling across campus to activities in shorts is not appropriate. The minimum standard for men will be shirt and tie. Jeans are not appropriate. The minimum standard for women will be a dress (or a skirt and blouse or sweater). Casual dress or clothing will not be permitted. Men: A tuxedo is optional, while church attire such as a sports coat or dressy sweater is recommended. A dress shirt and tie, formal half-collar shirt without tie, or turtleneck with a sport coat and dress slacks are acceptable.

Dress shoes are required. Athletic shoes, t- shirts, kilts, jeans, and grubby attire are not appropriate. Women: A formal dress is optional; Sunday dress is recommended (a modest dress with the hemline or slit at or below the knee). Athletic shoes, sleeveless dresses, spaghetti straps, low-cut necklines, unlined see-through materials, and open-back dresses below the shoulder blades are not appropriate. Dress should be consistent with university dress standards at all events. Appropriate dress will be specified in the publicity prior to the dance. Brigham Young University Idaho invites students to refer to, For the Strength of Youth when choosing their swimsuit attire. Specifically we are taught, “Never lower your dress standards for any occasion. Doing so sends the message that you are using your body to get attention and approval and that modesty is important only when it is convenient”. Swimsuits should be modest in fabric, fit and style. Women’s suits should cover the stomach.

It is NOT permissible to wear classroom dancewear outside of the dance area. It is also required for students to have the appropriate footwear. Appropriate clothing to wear for moving between classes on campus Appropriate dancewear for Clog and Tap Classes If you wear shorts/capris they may range anywhere from below the knee to the ankle in length. Hart approved athletic clothing is acceptable here. Clogging shoes are required. Appropriate dancewear for Modern Dance Classes Women: Proper and modest dance attire: tank, cap, or long sleeved leotard, sports bra, and black dance pants that go below the knee. NO cut offs or shorts of any kind. Men: Proper and modest dance attire: tight t-shirt, compression shorts, and dance pants that go below the knee. Women will wear a skirt or dress pants. Men will wear dress pants or Latin pants.

Hart approved clothing is not acceptable for use in the Ballrooms.  Ballroom shoes are required. Appropriate dancewear for Ballet Classes Women: Pink canvas - split sole ballet shoes, round neck short sleeved or tank leotard in black, pink tights with the opening for footed and or footless wearing. Ladies must carefully consider their support bras so that the best possible line can be presented for esthetic concerns during classes. Dancers may cover up with any manner of sweatpants and tops or jazz pants and or knitwear legwarmers and sweater tops in any color of choice. We just need to be down to the leotard and tights layer so as to properly see the architecture of ballet as you perfect your practice. Men: White canvas - split sole ballet shoes, white tee shirt worn out ok, black mens tights, black men's dance belt. The dance belt will provide you with proper carriage and esthetic body lines while in class and on stage. Your basketball athletic supporter is not firm enough and not does it give you handsome body lines.
