Club instructor Austin Biesty 3rd Dan JKA has 20 years karate experience. Beginners are welcome to join at any time. There is no need to pre-book but please arrive in good time before the lesson is due to begin. Comfortable clothing such as tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt is recommended for the first few lessons. We train barefoot and all jewellery must be removed before the class starts. Our classes are suitable for both children (age 7 years and above) and adults. Perhaps you are new to martial arts and thinking about trying karate, have had a break from training for a few years, or just looking to join a new club. Whatever your motivation, if you find your way to a Shiranamikai dojo, you’ll be most welcome. Lessons always start with warm-up exercises and stretching. JKA karate comprises kihon (basic techniques), kata (forms) and kumite (partner work) taught in equal measure. A typical session may incorporate one or all of these elements, as well as other exercises designed to increase overall fitness.

Lessons cost £6 (7-15 years old) or £7 (ages 16 and above), payable before the start of each class.
