Dachshund Puppies for Sale Dachshunds originated in Germany during the early 1600s. The goal in breeding these dogs was to produce a dog that was long and fearless and that could excavate the earth from a badger hole as well as fight these brutal badgers to death if necessary. The name Dachshund comes from the German "badger," apparently from the fact that they were meant to fight off the badgers.

Dachshunds are very lively and have quite the friendly disposition as well as a sensitive sense of smell. They are enthusiastic hunters that are superior in above and below the ground activity. These dogs are among the most popular as stated by the AKC statistics. Their coats are three different types: longhaired, smooth and wirehaired. They are also standard or miniature in size. Dachshunds are very lovable dogs and make playful friends. These dogs are ideal pets for a large variety of homes and that includes homes with children as long as they have proper supervision. They love to receive attention along with lavishing affection on their humans. This breed only needs a moderate amount of exercise and can adjust to the majority of environments. Depending on the type of coat, Dachshunds need a certain amount of grooming from sporadic to regular. If you are looking for a fun loving and affectionate little dog to add to your family, the Dachshund may be the answer for you. We have an awesome community of friends that love on their long dogs and ensure we have some truly happy shots to showcase for your fridge, wall, and/or office!!

Please consider making a difference in their lives!! All of these pups have been with us for a while. They have seen other dogs come and go, because they have been waiting for you! Can you be the difference maker in their lives? (Click on the name banner to see more info and to apply!) Hi everyone, my name is Rosie and I’m from Memphis, TN. I was surrendered to rescue by a family member of an abusive back-yard breeder. It was the best day of my life when they found someone that was a member of All American Dachshund Rescue that lived in my home town.

They immediately took me into their family even though I had many medical and social issues. I couldn’t walk on my hind legs and it was feared that I had Intevertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) but the rescue did a myelogram and I didn’t have a ruptured disc after all (yippie!), it was nerve damage so they started my laser therapy and today I’m up and walking the wobble walk 80% of the time. I will do best if you keep to a strict potty routine, I’m no problem at all. I’m waryof strangers and do get a little on the defensive side but if you give me my space, show kindness, patience and love I will stick to you like glue on paper. I’m currently going to behavioral modification sessions at ProTrain and taking Prozac to help calm my stress/fear factors. I like my sessions with Mr. Bailey and look forward to each one. I love my foster siblings but am not fond of the larger breed dogs. Children make me very nervous so a mature older couple or individual is preferred. My foster mom’s sister has a cat and I get along with her just fine.

I’m very scared of storms so just keep me close to you during the thunder and lighting. I am leash trained but only on grass, concrete is not my best friend. I don't mind being crated for a little while but if you plan on being gone all day it brings back too many sad memories. I love the big bed with my foster mom. I must be adopted within a 300 mile radius of Memphis, TN and my furever family must be willing to meet half-way for a lengthy meet and greet. Are you the forever home that is willing to take on a challenge and make me the perfect part of your family forever? To learn more about me and to fill out an application Click Here. I am hoping you can be the home that helps me bloom into the companion animal I can be. Will you let me love on you and experience joy! Hi my name is Brittany and I came in from Western KY when my owner left her husband and left me and 5 other dachshunds with him. He didn’t want us either so we were not well cared for but finally he got in touch with AADR to see if they would take us.

It really was the best day when a member got us because we knew then we would not be neglected any longer. Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t mean to us but he ignored us and we got no attention and as you well know, we Dachshunds love attention so I’m kinda an attention hog now. I love, love lap time. I would lay in your lap 24/7 if you’d let me and when I don’t have a lap then give me a big fluffy blanket and I’ll burrow in that till the cows come home!! I only have two very minor drawbacks….I want you to go outside with me when I go potty because I want you to be proud of me and I have my right eye that has dry eye so I have to have meds to put in that eye. One drop twice a day and my eye looks great. I will be coming with a supply of it when you adopt me, the rescue is good that way they take great care of us foster doggies. Brittany will need to be on a strict potty schedule and when you leave either a crate with a big fluffy blanket or an enclosed area would work great for her.

She’d be fine as an only dog or with another male dog. She came in quite chunky so you’ll have to monitor her weight; we’ve worked to get her weight down and now she needs to maintain. This little girl would be great for an older couple that wants a quiet girl who is low maintenance and just wants a lap to lay in….fenced in yard would be best too.
